The water use bit is quite interesting potentially.

I've had a bit of a fright off cover crops this year and not planted any, but I think it was illogical. The cold spring exacerbated poor looking no till crops after covers and it made me turn off covers a bit. On reflection I think I should have placed some fert to buffer the cold spring. So next year will go back to covers and more experimentation after a blip.

Jury is out on cover crops here. Not convinced we are warm enough/ long enough daylight to get best use out of them in this country when used in the late summer/autumn. I don't really feel that I am getting the growth that I need at this stage, but will wait and see before I call it.
