Now all the dramas of last week are receding and tractors start trundling up & down tramlines again, was anyone else surprised by the amount of soil visible on top of the drifts alongside cultivated soil once the fields had thawed? I always thought of wind erosion being a dry weather issue for the fens & USA rather than here.

It was really bad in feb 86 (makes me sound like an old man). The ground was frozen for 3 weeks with no snow, the surface freeze dried and soil blew away leaving wheat plants to fall over, just anchored by there roots with the stem base exposed.
