Winter barley costings start to finish

I like the idea of winter barley to spread the harvest might try it at some point, whats the best way to get it into my rotation? were normally grass, potatoes, wheat, sb, sb, sb, sb undersown with grass

yes but keep 150t for cattle, normally get the odd rejected load

That probably makes volunteers a bit of a problem? Otherwise anywhere where you grow spring barley. Perhaps most logically after ww?

WB tends to do better when it’s not sown in November North of the border. Stick it in behind SB.

Winter barley in Yorkshire doesn't want to be sown past mid October if you want a decent crop. It could fit after a spring barley if ploughed before drilling. Fodder crop afterwards or osr. It might fit @Bossfarmer 's system quite nicely.

2nd week October is cutoff for heavy land winter barley here. Thin, yellow barley in Feb won't pay.

That's a contradiction to your previous post about needing every acre producing forage.

You could use WB to precede grass, instead of undersowing. It depends if you feel the SB is compromised by the grass. If not, little point.

That's a much debated topic. There would be fewer volunteers and the grass will get an N boost. Downside is that it is easily tramped right through autumn/winter/spring.

Almost all my fert is digestate. So £175/AC. If you're looking for full costs including lime, etc and bagged npk and new seed and a rental equivalent, it's close to £500/AC.

Naughty the seed secret police could have something to say about buying fss Very tempting though . Way of the future sow it off the heap instead of buying expensive new seed every year . With costs the way the are profit will depend on big yields or cheap costs .

I just remembered the other thing: Rightly or wrongly, I blamed residual dff for ending up with very little clover when not ploughed.
