Irrespective of what it's called, what's in it, whether it's approved or not; it's far more effective than bentazone.

Liberator and pendimethlin sprayed onto cereals in autumn with bean volunteers doesn't seem to touch the beans. Look healthy as. Often wondered if they would pod OK.
Not great for cleavers though, and not approved for beans. Presume there's a reason why not approved.

Wouldn't dream of trying to grow beans without some kind of pre-em residual herbicide. Whether you go into the expensive stuff or not will depend on your anticipated weed pressure and what species will feature.

And yet bentazone is really, really common in groundwater, often at high levels, to the dismay of water companies. If is no good perhaps it can be dropped and water companies placated?

I sprayed out some volunteers and BG in one field, knocked the beans but are happily growing away now that was after 1.5ltr/ha glypho, seem to be like clover, quite hard to kill with a low dose of Glypho,

A very limited few are controlled by Crawler, but we soon loose that as well!

This is the problem, actives become banned, you can no longer grow various crops and everyone moans there are no insects or bees all of a sudden!

Have you actually used it would be a lot cheaper than pre em ,am tempted to try a tramline

Neighbour did it with 0.25lt. Did a job. Easiest way to get roundup-ready blackgrass if you ask me

Slightly off topic but drilling wheat into ex bean land , I’ve sprayed out bg with glysophate but the volunteer beans seem to have shrugged it off.
Not worried I suppose they can be knocked out in the spring ?
but my thoughts with fert prices as high as they are , why would we want to knock them out in the autumn at all ? Would they fix any nitrogen over winter ? And prove an asset more than a pest?

No. They will fix nothing over winter and will only shade out and BG if you're thinking of spring grassweed sprays. If not then they're not doing much damage, and tbh there's nothing really good to kill them in winter anyway.

Yup. But when we used it in spring, I'd want the beans gone before they shaded the BG come march.

Probably wouldn’t work this year as the blackgrass is so late coming but in a ‘normal’ year when we used to spray Atlantis in the autumn it would do both jobs quite nicely. I guess September drilled stuff you could go now with it but then I bet most beans into wheat didn’t get drilled in September with the late bean harvest this year
