2020 wasn't an easy year, but we've still got over 1.5t/acre. Usually get 2t. Expect to spend up to £140/acre input costs, but ideally £100. Ctl gone now, so fungicides will be more expensive and possibly less effective.

Want to be on medium or heavy land. Not light land.

Mid October is ideal for us (yorkshire). That's ploughed down to delay emergence a bit.

Normally aim to start late October. Depending on weed pressure, consider a pre-em, as there aren't many good post-em options. They really are a low maintenance crop. Get them deep to avoid bird damage. They are a good following crop as the root nodules will fix a lot of nitrogen which will then be available for the next crop (normally cereals)
