Got the chance of an arable farmer to put some stubble turnips kale drilled in once fascila been topped around august time, just after thoughts regarding payment if I should pay by acre or per head I fear it may not come to much with being planted in back end just wanting to put some fertility back in to the ground

Completely area dependent. Here it’s about 60p/head

If he's an arable farmer he may be better putting some mixes cover crops in that can be grazed , that way it makes it more attractive

Must know what’s the job is about been doing it for 50 years and has around 35000 lambs down from the borders yearly

Good for him. His calculator must work differently to mine.

It will of worked out for him this year, but very expensive keep normally. I expect he doesn’t have any problems getting keep at those rates though!

I got £ 1 head on rape , good crop but expense was all mine , to be fair a lot get that for grass
Just shows how area related it is . I could let mine a 100 times over

It's not accidental they I moved from Gloucestershire to Lincolnshire.

I bet I know who that is. And he would definitely know his costs and how to do a good job out of a lot of store lambs.

Have another mate who buys the best Beltec and tex lambs and go on slats and fed pellets
Clips them etc , just get pellets and water , blended to his spec and those lambs fly and weigh like lead , no gut on them , he another sharp operator 6000 through system a yearc

Numbers game. 35,000 lambs at a couple quid profit isn’t bad. But numbers aren’t the whole story.
