Winter Fuel Payments

Not sure where to put this but us oldies will probably pop in here occasionally.

I've recently received the usual letter about the Winter Fuel Payment. My letter reads "Your money will be paid into your bank account with the account number that ends with **6665".

The trouble is, my bank account ends with a completely different set of numbers, but they did mnage to get one letter right!

I phoned the number in the letter but was told, "Oh, we are too busy to deal with that now. Phone back later".

So I phoned back later.....to get a recorded message telling me to go to their web site. So I did that and it referred me to a telephone number. Called the number and it referred me to the web site which referred me to a telephone number which...Well, you get the idea! So it looks like some bureaucrat with a bank account number ending in **6665 will be getting a bonus this year! Check they have the correct number and don't give up. Surely, there must be someone there?

It's only a tenner by all accounts , but all's fish that comes to the net ! I got same the letter , but no tenner yet .

My payment last year was £200 and that has been increased to £300 this year as I am over 80. That has been confirmed on the web site: www.gov.uk/winter-fuelpayment

The telephone number on the web site and in my letter are the same, it's just the four letters on my bank account number that are wrong. Publishing an account number is no big deal as it is also on every cheque. It is the pin number that makes your account vulnerable, never give that out. So unlikely to be a scam, but could well be a mistake that could cost those entitled to the payment £100 - £300. If you get the letter, CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER! (Personal information removed from my letter below).

Got my £300.00 earlier on this week . . Just a thought , you'd need to have a decent amount of money at .01% in NSand I to pay this amount of interest . I also got another tenner this week too , didn't ask what that was for !

Well, that sounds hopeful! But I suspect there's a bit of sleight of hand along the way somewhere! Like giving farmers BPS so we'll have some money if they decide to fine us for something.

Just got a letter asking me to apply for my free TV licence. It will be interesting to see what happens when I don't apply. Are they really going to send out a detector van to check whether I'm watching TV without paying? I wonder who thinks these things up?

To get a new supply of deaf aid batteries, I have to send in the little yellow log book. That's another 4 mile round trip to the post office. Oh, and the audiology department won't use email, so it has to be the phone -- to communicate with deaf people!

Aword of warning!! I appield for a TV licence online. One of the questions was are you over 75 yrs old, as I am 80 I ticked yes,.they backdated the licence to July 2020 SO if any who are 75 or older DONT TICK THE AGE BOX !!! I stopped my application. on the second time the licence was dated to commence November 1ST 2020

Is the application for a free TV license because of disability ? I had a reminder to pay mine , but I still haven't done , I don't think they'll send the bailiffs in just yet though . Hope not anyway . OH , sadly now gone , got registered as "partially sighted " and was listed as such . I was staggered at the way things came her way . We got a few visits from an official helper , who came with a copious "Goody bag" with all kind of items to help a partially sighted person , from different kinds of illuminated reading magnifying glasses , gadgets to tell you when you were about to overfill your brew mug , folding white stick - in fact just about anything you could conceivably need as an aid , just ask for it - free. And none of it returnable . The cost to the NHS for such things must be astronomical . I had a Knee replaced in a private hospital , NHS funded , and got a visit from another " advisor" with a list for delivery as long as your arm . A loo- lift with grab handles , a sort of "bum-stool" in case I couldn't bend down , 2 elbow crutches , and a chap to see about putting hand rails on both sides of the stairs . ALL of it non returnable when it was no longer needed .

Exactly the same here with Parents.
Mum rang number ,press this press that and after that ,Thankyou good bye!
Letter states contact number etc if not received by certain date.
Mum wrote to them now to say not correct and not received anything still.
BUT
On checking everything and afterwards found out it wasn't their bank account number but their Post Office account number?
Only thing the Post Office sent letters out saying closing card accounts and thus they closed them held there over the last few months as all Pensions being paid direct to a Bank Account .
Now looks like this winter fuel payment in limbo land and more chasing to do?
They never make things easy to they?

Predictably, no reply to my recorded delivery letter pointing out the mistke. That seems to be the way things are dealt with these days. If it is out of the ordinary and involves effort, forget it and ignore it and it'll go away.

Did you check your other account numbers to see if ANY of them possibly?

Email your MP. They are pretty good on the whole at sorting this sort of stuff out, as they have the contacts to make things happen, hopefully.

There is a statement on their web page to contact after the 15th if nothing has gone through. Just waiting to check my bank statements. (I am still on paper ones!). If they'd tried to contact me by phone, they probably won't get me as I am deaf and hardly use it.
