Winter Linseed is drilled in september and combined at a similar time to Winter Rape ie July/August.

It does not attract the Cabbage stem flea beetle.

There is a lot of work going on in the back-ground to secure alternative products as replacements for diquat.

Did you secure an alternative to Diquat??

I use roundup on spring linseed. It's ace.

I think glyphosate is not recommended for application to seed crops of any type of crop but look at how the volunteers grow and draw your own conclusions.

Oh you meant winter linseed- I see.
Yes I think I probably will. I think yield here will be acceptable but it has suffered fromherbicide damage from previous crop , went on to recover well but then suffered from heat in flowering. Several flowers aborted and bolls look small to me. Proof will be in the combining.

I'll just say it even grew the year we used reglone.....and then had to roundup it after. No warranty given or implied.

I’ve been home saving osr for 15 years, always had Glyphosate on it and it has never not grown.
Just my opinion.

Yup. Starane seems to do them well enough.

Did you secure an alternative to Diquat??

The AHDB has applied for an Emergency Approval for Carfentrazone-ethyl (product Spotlight plus) to CRD on behalf of the linseed industry. Decision is pending and farmers will be informed when a decision is made.

@Daniel do you have a home for the linseed straw? I’m based in Royston and would be keen to bale it. I’m normally really impressed with the quantity of straw that we get from winter linseed compared to spring. My number is 07779632760.

I reckon I’ve got 140 tonnes, and that’s what I’d budgeted.

Easy to grow. Easy to harvest. Cost much less to grow than rape, and seems more robust too. I’ve booked 175 acres for next year.

Its the same as any linseed as a product AFAIK so no. PC do have a good outlet in France though.
