Winter linseed

No other way to take it other that in good fun [emoji4] it’s been the worst continuous farming year I have ever had and we do not seem to be able to even finish it off
Didn't it all start to go wrong on the 23rd Sept last year so nearly done!

Don't suppose that's helped.🙈

Just drilled my winter linseed for the first time. I've replaced half my OSR area with it. Not only is CSFB a big problem, but also massive damage from
partridge from a neighbour's shoot. I know both crops are prone to pigeon damage, but can anyone tell me if partridge will go for the winter linseed as they do OSR?
I can't find any info on it.

If it helps, I grew some for this harvest, and I had 4 hectares of spare seed so I drilled it into the headland of a field destined for fallow (partially to stop people driving all over it in the winter, which worked).

You can see the far side of it is right next to a big piece of game cover which was for partridge. I didn’t notice any notable damage Maybe a couple of feet wide, but no more than that.

You can also see a game strip on the RHS of the far field beyond the house. No damage there either.

Thank you so much. I'm greatly encouraged. Lovely drone pic too.

It fascinates me hoe people who have grown spring linseed (or have heard of people who have) assume that the winter version is the same.
It couldn’t be more different.
I had 190 acres this summer and it was cut mid July and was just as easy to cut as a crop of 13% wheat.
Hope you don’t mind me asking but what are the costs per acre for growing linseed approx?

Did mine last friday. 4lt plus adj. More to kill the rubbish (poppies and pansies) than the linseed as barely any green leaf.
The same here. Date and rate. No rubbish to speak of, and as you said for the crop stage, and being a bit late too, as leaf nearly all gone.
Although we've been able to control most weeds, winter linseed is clearly not a crop to help with blackgrass control, but have rogued them out of it.
It's also not a crop you want to try and walk through without doing much damage, unlike cereals! In fact it's like wading through treacle.

Fair play. You wouldn’t rogue the BG out of mine and as for poppies. Did you avadex then c max the BG?

How much green weed is growing ?
if not much, that will cut direct without glyphosate when the seed is dry, but if there is a lot of new weed growing, glypho now.

thats the cleanest place in the field, rest is full of poppies and a few wild oats on one headland. Bit of green in the bottom but not much .
