Winter triticale seed

Has anyone drilled winter triticale seed at the end of February? Im 1 ton short of spring seed but got a ton of Cyrkon winter seed. Spring seed is seemingly sold out, the last of it reached £800/t. I know it needs a frost which we’ll probably get before spring. It’s for wholecrop and is about 20% of total acreage.

Doesn't look like you have much choice , I've sown winter barley in March and combined it no problem

Whilst you’d get away with planting most winter Triticale well into April but Cyrkon wouldn’t be one of them. It will head really late and whilst I appreciate that you want to whole crop it rather than harvesting it I think that you are going to have to accept that it’ll will only be useful for adding to the bulk. Having said that, if you can’t get any other seed it’ll be better than nothing, is there any chance of you mixing it with the other seed you’ve got and spreading it over your total area rather than having 20% of your area with it as a straight.

Put it in. If my memory is right there’s no such thing as winter and spring triticale. @Soya UK will be able to confirm, we’ve had this conversation before on here.

Once I planted Logo in the spring, combined it in September and planted the next day as a cover crop after FYM, worked very well.

Have you ever planted Cyrkon in the spring? Even though I knew it needed vernalisation I took a chance and ended up harvesting it very late with a poor yield. Logo (spring) and Amarillo ( Winter) are different, I’ve planted them both in autumn and spring slots with decent yields from both sowing timings. Of them all Amarillo would be my favourite.
