why is winter sown crops yield better than spring sown crops??

Longer time in the ground means longer time to convert sunlight to plant growth = more seed at the end of it.

Having said that you also can have negative factors which have more time to damage the yield potential, but assuming you look after a winter crop the yield potential will always be higher.

All these reasons are why I would rather drill my spring crops earlier rather than later despite the naysayers on here.......

But does drilling early necessarily guarantee it emerges from the ground earlier than something planted a little later?
