Winter Wheat & Barley Wholecrop

Do the above make good wholecrop silage? Do people use fertiliser, fungicides etc as per a crop taken through to combining? We’ve just taken on some ground with 50acres of each and trying to consider best options for them, as had to buy the growing crop.

Given forward cereal prices, can you not take it through to combining, or sell the standing crop for someone else to combine? Surely plenty of willing buyers in your area with combines.

But yes, grow it properly, as you would a grain crop anyway.

It’s in Herefordshire…. and I know nothing about growing corn 😂

I like the idea of selling a standing crop. Was asking about wholecrop as whilst grain prices are high, so surely will be cattle feed so silaging it may suit.

I’m sure there will be plenty of neighbours that would take care of it for you, or approach local agent to find someone to buy the standing crop as it is now, for them to grow it on?

Need to go and knock on a few doors!
