Winter Wheat N Question

Lets say I grow winter wheat after beans and with no N at all it could yield 1.5t acre

With 160 units of N it grows 4t acre

Does that mean my N costs should be attributed to the extra 2.5 ton only?

Lets say each unit is £1.


Does it cost me £40 t in N to get my yield extra yield or does it cost me £64 t in N to get my extra yield? (not to mention the other extra investments)

The maths in my head says cost on return needs to be calculated on the £64 figure.

Still a good investment at historic prices, whichever way you look at it. Different at £3 or £4 kg though.

Deciding to do it: £64. Once you've done it: £40, unless you want to count your heap of grain as having 2 different CoPs, which is the truth.

That's very interesting, it suggests upping fert rate to 225kg/ha from 220.

What price did you put in expected? Agree its an interesting sheet.

I'm concerned about 2023. Say £3/kg N. Apply 200kgN/ha (£600). Would yield 3.75t/ha with no fert, but if little rain only yields 7t/ha @ £200/t. Just about get my money back.
