Plough, 2 days drying and then combination drill... I think the issue was a very intense and prolonged week of rain that started too soon after drilling. Normally it requires an additional power harrowing to create something that looks like a seedbed.. I can't believe how what was a fairly rough surface got pummeled down to this airless, waterlogged slop in just a couple of days... looks like it has been under a flood for 3 weeks yet the field is the brow of a hill, sloping away on both sides. Just hoping enough plants survive to cover the cost of some weed control and a combine Could have been worse, had I abandoned plans for winter barley earlier I might have to look at 60acres of this rather than 17!Cultivations used?
