Wireless Bridge Test

Still having problems, my problem is
•Data Transmission is not consistent and pauses and stutters, regardless of weather conditions or day or night. It can vary between 25MBs and 0.5MBs. (Engenius Speed Test Values)
•Even though Speed test values vary, RSSI values as read from laptop plugged into router stay v v v consistent at -58dBM and -33dBM.

Is it a bit strange the RSSI values vary at each end, should these be the same.

That roof is a no-no. Move the one AP.

That's your problem right there.

I have moved my transmitter thus taking the metal roof entirely out of the equation via moving my transmitter. Still no improvement however, connection still dropping off.

Changed my frequency to 20mHZ turned both units up to full power.

Either these engenius are absolute rubbish or ultra sensitive.

Modern glass slows a wifi signal down alot
Glass also taken out of the equation

if you look back a few posts you will see the recommendation remove metal roof from the transmitter coverage, so got around to doing that yesterday

however still have a problem

settings are in the word doc attached

The firmware on ours looks to be 1 -5 -68 which looks to be newer than yours ? Might make a difference.

Have you tried doing a factory reset on each unit & putting the settings in again.
Have you tried getting them to link in the same room. That way you will see if there is a prob with the units or the location

did the same room exercise last year and all was good, may try that again just in case anything has changed , I wonder is it possible download and update firmware

what mode do you set yours up in wds bridge like I have or one of the other modes

One is WDS Station & `tother is WDS Access point, - because as well as transmitting to & from Station it also gives a WiFi signal across the yard

If you don`t need Wifi from the unit I`m told WDS Bridge at both ends should be fastest. Also 40 mhz better than 20

You should be able to download latest firmware & load it into your units

I would try it working in AP mode first not bridge to start with - allows you to use any device at the remote end to verify the signal. When all working then you can move to bridge mode. Note on the 5ghz devices bridge mode is not recommended I have them here and it kept dropping due to a legislative requirement not to scan for new channels on 5ghz when interference causes signal to get dropped.

We also have a pair of Engenius ENS 500 units. They are currently show a speed of 100mbps
They works at 5ghz
All depends what you consider an acceptable speed ?

We're about to install our second directional wifi link. A bit more ambitious this time at around 1.5km.

What is the general advice with horizontal clearance? I'm looking at pushing the signal through a clear gap (20ft wide) in some trees that will be around 40m in front of the antenna. Moving the antenna to a mast beyond the trees is possible, but it involves some tricky cabling that I'm keen to avoid if possible. The antenna will be as high as possible as per the fresnel zone.

TIA and sorry for the hijack.

After spending a long time trying to get two Engenius 2.4ghz transmitters to work seemlessly across 150m and failing so far, Im getting someone who does this type of thing for a living to come look at it.
(No problem with IP address etc, its that my signal is v v v noisy and cutting out intermittetently. ) I downloaded

No problem with incorrect channels either, INNsider shows no interference.

I have a feeling he/she will conclude the same unless their is a miracle, and recommend upgrading to to 5ghz transmitters.

Question if anyone has any experience with Wifi. Does 5GHz cope better with interference or is this a waste of time.

I downloaded this bit of software https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wifi_information_view.html which shows the signal quality bouncing up and down for no good reason,

@upnortheast , @Pheasant Surprise maybe

Had hoped @Pheasant Surprise would appear as he knows more than me.
Briefly - The primary differences between the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies are range and bandwidth. 5GHz provides faster data rates at a shorter distance. 2.4GHz offers coverage for farther distances, but may perform at slower speeds
5GHz has a wider choice of bands so less chance of interference from another source
Concern is why you are having probs with 2.4GHz, in theory 150m should be a doddle for it Be good if your expert could identify the problem
