Wireless rain gauge?

Just wondering whether to treat myself to one that can be put up in the garden on a pole.

I don't want a full weather station, just external temp and precipitation, and I've found several on Amazon for 30-50 quid. But got a question... do they empty the water collector automatically? If so, how frequently?

Which were you looking at? I've always fancied getting a wireless rain gauge that would link to the wifi but like you dont want the expence of a full on weatherstation. I have just a normal rain gage that you check manually and i had an app for recording each day, which i kept up for about 4 months until the app updated its self and wiped all the info i had put in :banghead::banghead::sour: Haven't bothered with it since.

Something like this. https://www.amazon.co.uk/TFA-Dostma...prefix=wirelesi+rain+gauge,outdoor,188&sr=1-3

I cannot be arsed to record measuremnts daily.... Hence a device that will do it itself :)

Have one here. Yes it empties itself, just measure the rain as it falls through. Not sure how accurate it is in heavy rain though. Fine in normal stuff , but didn’t record any in the 10 minute downpour we had last night

I have one of the cheap weather stations which reports wirelessly.
To be fair it generally does the job provided the spiders have not had a party in the bowl.
But it does have an issue of reporting 24 hrs 12 midnight to 12 midnight , when the convention is 7am - 7 am
on the plus side comparing it to my neighbour with a proper old fashioned gauge it is fairly accurate

I got one of these for my old man, seems to work well. Self emptying, and seems pretty accurate. Also has 100m range on the transmitter so can locate it away from the house to prevent sheltering.
  • 433MHz with RCC transmission
  • Detail display of rainfall data in 1hour, 24hour, week, month and total since last reset (user selectable in inch or mm)
  • Indoor outdoor temperature
  • Radio controlled time and date with manual setting option

Have state off art Pessl Weather station
which gives as weather forecast which is very good to read and has an Agri section with predictions for spray windows and then there are the disease models for crops using the weather station data
The sensors / data I have are
Air temperature
Relative Humidity
Dew point
Vapour pressure deficit
Rain fall
Leaf wetness
Soil moisture and soil temperature
At 2” 6” and 12”
And soil salinity
And I will be adding a few more sensors
Wind speed and direction
( will allows moisture loss estimate from different crops )

and don’t use the rain gauge as as you would think but Soil moisture All the time

I bet that's not £50 on Amazon ;)
I think all rain gauges still use the tipping spoon technology for self-emptying, which has been around for donkeys' years.

Aha, that't how it works then? :)
My wireless rain gauge is face-book, always plenty on there telling everyone how much rain they had incl pic's !

My rain gauge was a local person with a Davies weatehr station, but it's gone off air.

There is a Sencrop station not far from me but the subs cost...

Oregon. About £120. Really disappointing. Its the display mainly thats the problem. Black lettering and symbols on a dark background on a 5" screen.
