Wireless weather station

Any suggestions on a decent weather station. I’d like to be able to see it on an app on my iPhone and look at rain fall data etc.

Basically I want to be able to try and identify drought issues before we’re in them so I can make better decisions.

Been looking at the netatmo station but not sure as mixed reviews

I juts got x2 Sencrops - I am going to do a full review but they are brilliant and Im very impressed with them

not expensive (about £350) and no SIM card charges, very high quality professional build, excellent app and desktop etc with collaborative features and alerts etc

Very easy to set up - remove from box, site and switch on, battery lasts 3 years (claimed)

I have got them do do a TFF members deal as well (i want more of them !) will post details tomorrow

I’ve got the Netatmo setup, it’s ok, if I had my time again would I buy it again? probably not. Sends alerts when it’s raining, gives data on how much rain, temp, wind speed/direction etc, batteries don’t last all that long in my experience, I’ve had it a few years. It works but if you want to build data etc I think there’s probably better out there.

I have got two Pessl weather stations coming one full spec with soil moisture, soil temp, leaf wetness, solar flux, air temp humidity, rain fall, pressure etc, the other with water level, pressure and temperature, will add wind speed and direction in the future and still have space to add Loads more sensors. Is also comes with crop health data and disease models. http://docs.metos.at/Disease+model_en so looking forward to it turning up

We have a Rain Gauge from Sencrop and its been recording data ever since it has been turned on. Quite handy!

Had a look at the Sencrop offer, looks an attractive price. Had a quote from company at last years Cereals and it was £1500 + VAT!
I see it has a SIM card and £150 a year for that, but so did more expensive option.
How are people getting on with them?

They must have a SIM card in them to send data?! I assume the cost is covered by £150 annual. I sent an email off TFF link but not heard anything yet?

anything available without subs? Dont need precision it will stay insitu.
Mine cost £60, only as remote as nearest WiFi signal but works well enough for me.
Link it to Wunderground and you can see it anywhere in the world as long as you have Internet.
Look for USB weather station on eBay. Mine was from Maplin so can’t get one from there now.

Not a SIM card - they use Low-Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) which keep the data costs far lower than they would be if they had 4g SIM like most other remote stations

It also means the batteries last a long longer (claimed 3 years !)

I've had a few similar stations over the years, tat basically that hasn't lasted and needs to be close to a building with wifi which somewhat defects the object of a "remote" weather station

it says £379 for the station ? £150 yr sub ?

Last SIM powered station I priced up was over £1500 plus the SIM data contact at £15-20 per month - makes the Sencrop pretty good value IMO ?

I've only been running 2 of them a month but very impressed so far, don't have the wind sensor as out of stock but its become a bot f an obsession looking at the app !

As in previous post its not SIM data its Low-Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) - check your area has coverage before buying one !

Which is why I said only as remote as the nearest WiFi signal.
Mine has been running since Dec 2012, I replaced the anemometer a year or two back otherwise it is fine. Not sure how you measure “not lasting” but I think I have had my money’s worth.

I had a Maplin one that was £30 on offer - it lasted about 6 months - very similar to the one you linked

Wifi is ok if you want it for your garden but you not getting much further from a building really

But for the money they are ok for home use I guess, not something you can compare a remote network field station with however
