Woldgrain Expansion 2021

This is very interesting. We are having a 700 ton stirring bin put up later this spring, the entire floor is a mesh though, for drying, so I think the groundworks will be simpler.
Your base will be a bit technical, to have a fully vented floor, but probably done in one pour if it's a 6m diameter.

I'd be interested to see the size of your fan and your airflow volumes for using heated air.

It's 12.8 metre diameter with an 18.5kw fan.

It will be feeding our chicken feed mill and we intend to blend wheat and rye or barley in it. We've added the drying floor and heater because our mobile dryer is 30+ years old so it represents a cost effective way of replacing it whilst we're building a silo for another purpose if you like.

Will the stirrers be doing the blending or do you have a gravimetric/volumetric type feeder to measure each ingredient into the silo?

The stirrers will blend it all up, we have a trailer on weigh cells and/or incoming weighbridge tickets to keep a track of amounts? It will also have the effect of regularising protein levels between different varieties or fields of wheat etc.

Ryegrass controls stack up

Learning from the successes of growers’ black-grass control programmes gives a raft of integrated cultural and herbicide strategies that can also be used to hit back at increasing ryegrass populations, advises Syngenta Technical Manager, Georgina Wood.

“Key to that success is stacking up as many of those options as is practically possible in a farm situation.”

  • Delay drilling
  • Adapt cultivations
  • Increase spring cropping
  • Grow competitive crops
  • Prioritise pre-emergence applications
  • Stack pre-em herbicides
  • Optimise treatment timing and...
