Woldgrain Expansion 2021

Today we have a small crane on site, helping to fit the roof supports to the second silo.

The temperature monitoring system is fitted to the interior of the completed roof, ready for the rest of that silo to be built. The silo is from a different manufacturer to the rest of the site, so the roof vents look a bit different.

@Sid would like to know how many trees you are planting as part of this expansion? what the carbon footprint of all the concrete and steel is and what reuse and recycle steps you have taken please ?

looks a great project by the way

Bingo.

Those of you who have looked at our store on google earth will see that we have 58 silos. These are of various heights, diameters and ages.

All of them are plain galvanised, with no paint or coating of any kind.

For the latest expansion the local parish council specified that the new silos be coloured to blend in. There was no mention of what colour, or what the silos had to blend in with (obviously not the other 58 silos).

There is obviously more to it, but this is a public forum.

We put together a few various suggestions with the help of an architect, so the council's planning officer could help us choose a scheme that fit with the wording (and the 'spirit') of the PC's condition.

The solution we agreed on was a graduated banding, darker at the bases and paler at the top, so from a distance the new silos will theoretically look like trees.

good luck making a 5500t bin look like tree ! pp can be a joke sometimes !

We haven't crunched the numbers (or needed to for planning), but the carbon footprint of drying and storing our volumes of grain on one site should be significantly less than if all our own members dried and stored their grain on their own farms. There was some research (Grant Thornton) which is probably out of date now.

Thanks. Any TFF members are more than welcome for a tour if they are passing.
