who the feck has to climb up the top of there? remember theres no staircase on the inside.

Access to the top of the silos is needed for a variety of reasons,

  • Maintenance/servicing/repairs to the conveyors and slides above the silos
  • Crop monitoring and sampling
  • Checking stock levels
In addition to the staircase there is also a vertical ladder between the two silos. I'll get a good photo of it later today.

how much cheaper is this than flat floor storage?

That's a big question.

It is not straightforward to compare a site like ours with shed storage.

The decision to store in silos rather than sheds is more to do with the capacity it creates and the flexibility of storing and potentially blending many different grades of crop. A shed on the same land instead of these two new silos would probably store a third of the tonnage at best.

This expansion works out at about £130/mt including all the handling infrastructure of conveyors & elevators, all the concrete & groundworks, temperature monitoring, fans, an additional outloading spout and software.

True, TASCC covers grain assured by recognised assurance scheme.

Imported grain is not assured when it arrives at docks then is majicly assured then that is suitably ok for tassc this is not right for uk farmers . You can store this imported grain in your store if you want to that to me is hipocritical to uk farmers. I was told that feed products imported from Africa was going to be stored in these so called assured stores these sort of rules are all againstances the UK farmers aic rt have a lot to answer for the putting down of the farmers in there own country.

And Grain stores seam to go along with the discrimination don't say anything as if they are all in cohoots with putting uk farmers at a disadvantage.

A equel to imports is not out of the question.
