Wooden Sheep Yards

I’ve crushed stone in some pens and it’s literally sh!t it don’t wash off and it’s fairly good incline, the concrete areas wash off nice and clean with rain
Concrete is best I know I don’t think he will be doing that though.

Concrete panels laid or sleepers could be an option @unlacedgecko especially for the race bit etc

The rest could be scraped once in a while with a mini Digger

My planings hold water and stir up the top layer all the time as it can’t get away. More open stone yards/hard standings are drier and I find them better, a quick scrape over once in a while and they wash off as good as new. As soon as you get mud on Planings they are a constant sesspit.

Lay it on a gradient. Pack it in properly with a spray of diesel so that it cures.

But if it isn't concrete, it'll be a mess regardless - when the weather is shyte (it's the UK so that's always)... unless you have a roof.

We have a similar situation on a smaller scale and have adopted an old cattle handling yard to handle c300 ewes with their lambs at maximum capacity. Used decent 4" posts with 6" gravel boards for the race. Post and half rails between the forcing pens and high tensile attached to original 6" posts for assembly pens. Original yard was surfaced with cotswold crush on level site. After 3 years use there is a layer of slurry which will take some moving. In summer dries up a treat and is pleasant to work in, presently quite literally liquid sh1t.

The best way to treat your timber is to make sure it’s dried out inside a building and then either creosote it or better still mix waste oil and creosote then soak the timber in it for a while and lift it out to strain off.
This all takes time and patience unfortunately that’s why I’ve never managed it but probably quicker than renewing it in a few year’s

I used to live in a house built in 1959. Lots of houses (including mine) still had the original creosote dipped larch fence panels and gates in 2010. Hinges etc would wear out but the wood was unbelievably hard wearing.

yer can just make the Dimond and races wood all the rest. netting but. put posts closer than 4 meters maybe 2-3 meters
have a set of yards set up that way works ok and cheeper than all wood
Quite a lot of them around here like that.
Basic wing and a couple of big pens to hold stock, bit of hardcore and maybe a drenching race, if it needs to be better than that then you can put the prattleys on the hardcore

but definitely sufficient for setting up a scanning/dagging trailer etc, or hooking the rams out

Are concrete panels not an option? Should you not get the option to renew on your lease you can pick them up fairly easily? But the initial cost may be higher? Having said that there might be a large labour saving over wood and netting combinations, panels drop in quickly and easily!

How long have you got the block for?

Creosoted stakes and second hand tin (with a rail on top to save your knackers) will go a long way for not much money. Netting & stakes to make a funnel and just a basic drenching race/pen, nothing that can walk easily. You can always stick the mobile yard/CombiCaravan on as well when you have a big job on.

Entirely depends on what schemes can be entered into Jan '22.

If you mean the guy from Motherwell area, his kit is as strong as wet paper... cheap for a reason and you'll regret buying it.

Anything shiny would walk within a week. There's a site not far, and people have been punched off their quads to steal them.
