Does anyone know what wool use is doing in the UK? @Frank-the-Wool may know?

My mother runs an independent clothing business specialising in skiing/hill walking etc. and she sells a lot more woollen products than 15 years ago. Demand for real wool base layers, woolly hats, mitts etc seems to rise each year.
Demand from the people who know rather than the headline grabbing, one interest, money begging eedjits.

I am a little out of touch these days, but fine wools (merino sub 24 micron) are doing extremely well fine quality clothing and as you mention for sports clothing. Our types of wool which go mostly into high quality carpets are struggling with prices having dropped recently to a level that was already poor both here and in NZ. Low oil prices have boosted man made fibres and all the talk of the environment does little to help.

There has been a small improvement in prices for the low mid micron wools for hand knitting in Asia but not enough to make much difference. NZ is doing new research on breaking wool down into its constituent parts to make a very fine white powder, this could have a number of environmentally friendly uses including as a binder for printer ink or talcum powder. A long way to go though before this is commercialised.

I never herd of "boohoo" !

I presume you do not have daughter in the 16-25 year age group!! The fastest growing retailer in UK if I recall. Also rapid rise in share price - wish I had bought some a couple of years ago. Brilliant quick response fashion. Not good news for sheep industry I suggest if Boohoo drops wool - others will follow. Packages arrive in my house weekly. Bet they know their customer base well..

Can't you go and speak to them and educate them. We as an industry need to be more pro-active and promote what is good about us. The plastic issue is a great starting point.
good point maybe there is a industry union type thing that could take this up and promote the good farming does but I won't hold my breath
