Wool clip yield.

I sold my wool yesterday and the clip yielded 2.5 kg per ewe.@ 60 cent/kg it won't pay for the clipping this year.
I just thought 2.5kg/ewe was a bit light for texel x Suffolk ewes.
What does every body else average?

Was in a place today and an old man was telling me he spent his summers picking wool off the fields. Reckoned it was too dear to let the birds have it! How times have changed. Everything used to be better!

This house is for sale at the moment and an old chap was telling me the other day when he worked on that farm as a lad they used to store several years wool in the attic to sell when the price was best and it used to pay rent and Shepards wages

I bet you wish you had a Wool Board!
Who weighed the wool, how do you know if it was correct. All Wool Board scales have to be checked by Weights and Measures to make sure they are correct.
Also how do you know if 65 cents (55p) per kg is the right price?

Are wool yield were similar. The money for 2016 came this week and it seem down on 2015. Hope it picks up for 2017 to cover costs.

From a quick tally up, my .Highlander ewes average about 4kg. The Charollais ewes average about 2kg, but quite a variation in fleece types & weights amongst those. Ewe lambs obviously less.

60c/kg seems very low. Our 2016 wool clip came back at 74p/kg average (Highlanders, pure Charollais & ewe lambs), which was down from nearly £1/kg the previous year. I thought that was bad enough, and your price certainly doesn't encourage me to sell to the Irishman.:(

We got paid €1.10/kg last year for 2016 wool paid upfront.
60c/kg is the going rate for lowland wool around here this year.
The scales I am not sure about ,that is why I asked on here. I wasn't about when he picked it and I left dad on charge.
I thought it would have averaged more than 2.5kg/head
