Why would you buy 1 cushion for £60 when you can get 10 for £30 (£3 each)

I resisted the temptation to ask ?. I was reminded of this episode though - any idea what happened to the honourable member for Istanbul?

Give me ten thousand ewes and I’ll give you back one lamb per year? That sounds like a deal, please sign me up.

I’ll plan to sell the 10,000 for £100 each (making me £1M) and then buy a lamb (£50) a year to pass back to you from the interest. I won’t even charge you any costs, mainly because I won’t be having any.

Not sure what’s in it for you though...

One sheep per ewe? Sorry, too late to change the deal now. You asked for one sheep total on the first post, and I’ve set up the deal on that basis.

In all seriousness:

A cushion contains 500g of picked wool.
Allow for 50% loss in processing, you need to send us 10kg for 10 cushions.
Sell each cushion for £50 in your farm shop (or attach a value of £50 to it when giving as a present) and you have a margin of £200 on the 10 cushions.
ie you have sold your raw fleece for £20/kg.
Yes it's a limited market, and yes it's effort, but it does show that there is a market for wool if you work at it.

We have some from this company in the loft, lovely stuff to lay compared to the fibreglass. Haven't looked in to making it. I suspect that, sadly, it's the same old same old. Price.

Sure, are you thinking in terms of processing your own ? If so you are welcome to visit (we are Kent) to learn more about the process.
Or if you are thinking of sending us some of your wool for us to process for you, have a look through the thread to see what sort of product you have in mind - batts for spinning, pillows/cushions, socks, gloves etc - and we can give you some prices.

Happened to hear PMQ's yesterday. A rural constituency MP asked the PM to give his support to the wool industry. Boris replied that his forebears had been sheep farmers and concluded by saying “I urge everyone looking for presents this Christmas to buy British wool”.

You know those stories about how good stuff happens by accident. The cheddar milkmaid leaving a pail of milk in a cave, that sort of thing. The first couple of plays with the felt loom, the batts weren't really dense enough so the felt had what to me looked like holes in it. The Woolshed ladies put ignorant me straight by explaining that it is a spiders web effect, very trendy. Clearly so, as they both sold as shawls at yesterdays farmers market .
