Wool processing mini mill

We are at the early stages of setting up a mini mill to process raw fleece from our flock (and, in time, others) into felt and yarn.
Having secured some Leader funding, we are about to make decisions on pieces of kit - drum carder, felter - and workspace layout, fleece washing system etc etc.
Would be pleased to hear from anyone out there who has already walked this path, or is at similarly early stages and would like to hold hands with us as we progress.

Did you get your mill up and running and where are you based. I am an upholsterer after byproducts and have had some from Cornwall but wanted a source closer to Essex?

First time we have been asked to felt some Herdwick wool. It is darker than I thought it would be, boss says that is because it will be teg wool and the fleece gets darker as the ewe ages.

Yeah I actually meant lighter as the ewe ages....befuddled lambing/calving brain .

Lol, you dissing the Herdwick ? Not sure what the end product/s will be yet, we were asked to felt it and then offer advice on what we can produce from it, conversation for this week, it has felted really well lots of possibilities.

Funnily enough we are already producing dish cloths from our Manx. Sold loads in the run up to Christmas, you would have thought it was a rather 'brave' gift to give, maybe if you call it eco you can get away with anything .

I don't know ~ it came up in a gloogle. There was definitely mutiny in the air in 2015, and I don't blame 'em for joining everyone else who's been challenging mislabelled petrochemical clothing.

She's off shearing for the summer now having just finished uni.
Presuming the exams have gone ok she starts as vitnery in Scotland at the end of summer
