We have used the Irish for years now. With 3/4 of our flock Swales it’s a no brainier. Last year swale wool was 30p thats for ever kg. Lasts time it went through the wool board 30kg was at the top wack with half 5p and the remainder 2p! If i had a 1000 mules or texels my attitude may be different.

Boggy.
Mine will be going to the wool board along with last year's 🤦. Bugger storing it any longer.
I remember going on a farm walk when I was at college.
Wool trade was on the floor in the '1960's(?) and farmer didn't send his wool in as it wasn't worth anything, sent 2 crops in the year after when trade had rocketed and it "set him up for life".
Doubt that would happen this year.

Theyve screwed us down that low now it wont break any farmer if we throw it away.
Hopefully this will allow the backlog to be cleared.
The wool board tell us there is no market for it so we will be doing them a favour if we dispose of it on farm.

If I hadn’t paid to have them clipped mine would be getting a match to it

I dont understand why The BWMB dont send out there marketing team to areas of Europe and attend Consumer Shows in these countries instead of throwing most of its effort into China. Why have all or most of your eggs in one box. The Sheeps Skins market is now controlled by China and its seems that wool is going the same way.
Yes we need our BWMB to market our wool but they need to adapt and target markets nearer to home. We trade openly with Europe and there must be more markets out there be it in new forms.
We has changed in Wool Board marketing in the last 10 or 20 years?
Whats there strategy for the next 5 years?

Dad put all ours into the dung pile. Just hoping it doesn't wind up around the rotors when spread 😬 guess who will be given the job of unwinding the rotors if it does 🙋‍♂️
I would say turn some of the heap before chucking it in the spreader, if it looks too fresh turn the heap and leave it a while longer... lot more fun turning a heap with a machine than digging out the spreader by hand :nailbiting:

BWMB has my wool already.

No chance in hell will it go for burning or waste - and even less chance it'll go to the Pikies.

What they've been quoting is less than my wool made... and is less than the current wool trade.

Lots complain about the BWMB but the wool is well and truly over their eyes if they're giving it to the Irish.

I'm at a loss to understand the rationale of sending wool to a private buyer just because he's offered a few pence up on BWMB current expectations.
The 'board' give us the average through the year...if it goes up, so will your balance payment next year.
that's the beauty of their system...everyone gets a share of good and bad trade through the year.

The privateer isn't very likely to phone you in 7-8 months and say he's sending a few hundred quid over cos trade improved after Christmas

By the current rules the wool board would have rung me in 7 months and said ' trades improved , im gonna send you another fiver'
There in cloud cukoo land, it just isnt worth bothering with for some breeds of sheep wool.

They don't ring you...they pay the balance the following year...and from whats been said above, it sounds like that's what will happen.
Unless they're deliberately defrauding, it's a no-bainer.
