Wool...what will you do with yours...

I still can't get my head around the fact they market our wool for us and return less than we can market it for ourselves :scratchhead: but we should still support them.

I will add a disclaimer that I believe the "other" buyers don't want some wool types but I don't have experience of this personally so can't comment.

Had family around this afternoon and wifes uncle Got his cheque this week for last years wool that was sent to the wool board. 2 ton of texel wool averaged after haulage 7p/kg. What a joke. 500 kg was 0p classed as broken fleeces. And they expect us to support the wool board.
So it takes well over a million ewes to pay the top mans salary and they say the Irish are taking us for a ride.😂

3,360,000 kilos of Swale wool that’s not including the undisclosed bonus figure to pay too man
Also doesn’t take into consideration 5p is top pay everything else is down graded from there
Classic example of an organisation that originally would start with only good intentions but has changed into an organisation that is run solely for their own benefit.

As said above. Who the hell can defend this?
Every profit available in farming can be easily eaten up by costs if they aren’t kept reigned in. 50p cost on the product by the agent returning 5p minus haulage and handling costs to the producer makes no sense to me

made a start with the shearing this morning, can get on faster when its just a case of throwing the fleece out for disposal.
Hard to get my head round the fact that a once proud product is now just removed and disposed of as a welfare/tidying up issue.🙈
Being a farmer part of me still feels i might be missing out on a quid....but it will just be a quid!✂️✂️🐑🙈😂

I’m still sending mine in. I view it like I do tin cans and plumbing scrap - it may not account for much but it pays the cost of transport to the depot, gives me a beer or two of cash and keeps the place tidy as well.
If we put a value to our time, (£10 per hour) which i admit us farmers rarely do, it isnt worth the time spent wrapping , tieing and ticketing sheets and delivering it.....and i can guarantee that those workers in the depot wont be working for nothing!

I get the Mrs to roll and keep the sheep up the ramp whilst I shear, then HM Snr (rtd) to deliver to depot - keeps them both happy, strangely.

Oh, and £10/hr is too little - double that at least if you respect yourself.
