Todays sale at BW saw a significant increase in price of over 5% on the last sale two weeks ago.
While the price is still lagging pre Covid levels there are now many factors that mean the price will continue to increase.
The world stockpile of wool has reduced and shipping costs from the rest of the world are very high. Hotels and leisure facilities that use wool carpets are once again in business.
Ugg boots are once again in fashion which removes a significant amount of skin wool.
The high price of oil and gas means there will be more wool used for knitting in colder countries for heavy clothing.

BW has reduced costs significantly and providing more wool can be handled by it then costs will continue to reduce.
Ok it is not a lot to get excited about but the importance of ensuring most of the wool goes through the auction cannot be under estimated.

Utter waste of time supplying the wool board!

Even if prices went up 50% they will still find excuse after excuse to pay farmers nothing for their wool and this will carry on as long as the top people are on wages like 166k a year, all we are doing by supplying them is rewarding them for failure!

And not only that the word of the wool board is worthless as in 2020 they promised they would pay an advance for 21 wool then when it came to 21 and the wool delivery's they refused to pay anything for 21 wool.

Whole board of the BWMB need to resign regardless of the wool price!

The true cost of handling wool on your farm (rolling fleeces, packing sheets, stitching up, storing , labelling, etc, etc. ) might just be more than you think ( at say £15 /hr) - then you need a building to keep it dry and a loader to put it on transport.
Now think how much it`s GOT to cost BWMB to do all it`s got to do - staff wages, pensions, buildings ( rent, rates, power, etc, etc) , handling machinery, insurances, phones, computers, postage, etc, etc,etc - its BOUND to cost many pence per kilo!!
I can`t run my business without HEAPS of costs and I don`t see how you can run yours without a fair few costs too.
Guys like you are just so good at criticising but I`ll tell you one thing it might just be harder than you think to cut costs much more at BWMB and even if they were half what they are now we still wouldn`t be getting much for our wool.
No doubt you are the man to sell British wool for far more money than that silly old real world wool price......
The plain truth is that WOOL IS JUST TOO CHEAP ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE , not just Britain !! Until there`s a recognition that the world needs natural fibres rather than oil-derived artificial fibres we`re frankly stuffed - I just get totally fed up of all the armchair experts on here - we have to farm in the real world and the BWMB is essentially doing it`s best in a very hard trading environment.
With regard to the top man at BWMB getting a high salary - just remember if you pay peanuts you get monkeys🐒🐒🐒.If you don`t believe me just look at our MPs and government ministers (well I THINK we might attract some intelligent useful folk if we paid them more!!:ROFLMAO:) 🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒(n)(n)(n)(n)(n) One of them even get`s all emotional and carried away when he thinks of Peppa Pig🐖 !

The letter the WB sent the other day asking if I were sending any wool this time, said wool at the latest auctions was back averaging 77p/kg. Be nice when it gets back over £1/ kg again.

I’m hoping it jumps up far enough that all those that sold to the Irish can look back and see that they’d have been better off supporting British Wool after all. I don’t suppose any of them will step forward and say it, but knowing they realise it will make me smile.:)

I’m less excited about the prospect of it making a meaningful contribution to my business, as the profit on it has been negligible for decades.

I will settle for it covering shearing costs like it was doing before Covid. Our wool cheque was getting towards £2.5k, that was a nice touch when I was shearing them myself. Hopefully now my back is fixed I can get back into it and do away with another bill coming through the door! 😂

I hope it get back to a £1/kg. Couple of quid a ewe will at least pay for fly control on them. Now we can take it to a collection centre 2 miles away that I pass at least once a day that will save £360 in haulage and can do it when I please not when the useless barsteward decides he want to pick it up.
