Well that’s the first load of wool delivered into BWMB at Bradford. Won’t be many pennies as last years is still at home too come yet! So will just be 2 years worth of advance. Might buy me a brew and half a bacon butty at a mart this spring

Last years wool clip just about paid for the fuel to take it to South Molten. I think it might be cheaper to throw this year's on the muck heap. At least all I'll have to foot is the contractors bill. The easycare's I've got are looking more profitable by the day.

Call me hopeful but with oil shooting up in price, wool should track it man made fibres are getting dearer so wool should begin to look like an attractive alternative

This is the year for the turnaround in wool prices ! I’m just the 3rd generation that I know to have said it , after the enduring optimism of my grandfather, then my dad, and now me !

With the rising price of diesel, I can see the cost of shearing up 10-15p/head, I hope the wool board can sell at a decent price or the farmer will be getting even less of his wool cheque.

Wool always used to increase in price at the time of wars as before man made fibres you needed it for army tunics and for blankets.
The last war where wool went very dear was the Korean war 1950 to 1953 when the Americans bought up all the wool around the world.

However with oil prices rising, man made clothing is now more expensive than natural and with the need to reduce energy costs wool will continue its upward trend.
I booked last years into BW today!!!

Think you could be about right with this. Not just my costs as the contractor but also the living costs of the guys working for me, everything is going up!

As you say everything has gone up, not just for you and your staff but say you need to buy some new combs for the season. If you get them from highway shearing or whoever, their cost of living has gone up also and that's without the extra cost of delivery for the combs so the money is going to be have to come from somewhere/someone. And up steps in the humble shepherd to fund it all, god bless him.
