im not foolish to as you say tar everyone with the same brush? i said in the start of my tread my local council, my local NHS ? but honestly alot of people are now alot more better off money wise from working from home, never seen so many people of working age wondering about my village with all the time in the world ?
Of course, some have more time. My wife saves 2 hours travelling every day and in the dinner hour instead of sitting in an office has time to do some things around the house freeing up time for the evening.

Our local surgery has been excellent my Doc when I need him either rings or texts. To be honest, do we need a face to face meeting every time?

I wish I knew what area you live so as to remember not to move there! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I'm saving north of £20k a year in commuting costs, and maybe a dozen hours a week of time at home. I'm hopeful that at least some homeworking can stay for our own mental health as well as the wider evironmental benefits of reduced fuel use.

You're a farmer, so you work from home all the time anyway. Whether you like it or not, the government has asked us to work from home where we can and for most office based workers that is the right thing to do. Council staff will all have email addresses and by being able to manage workload and avoid long calls they may even be more efficient than before lockdown.

Now do us all a favour and learn how to switch off bold - it's the computer equivalent of shouting (so perhaps appropriate to your rant) and not even remotely polite.
I THOUGHT CAPS LOCK WAS SHOUTING?

we like alot of small businesses havnt the choice to work from home? but it makes us here angry with trying to speak to someone at our local council about an important matter to find , first kept waiting for ages on the phone, then when you do get through leave a message and i will get back to you ? working from home ? our accountants the same ? get back to work now, dont use the excuse im working from home to do a couple of hours work aday and drive the hard working people who dont have that opportunity up the wall?

Look on the bright side - their boss can ring them at home at any time - after all they are 'in the office'.

i know for a fact that many NHS workers are now working from home now permantly, my sister has two of them ? And what about doctors try seeing one in person? Many doctors now are working half the hours they were for the same money fact.
Most GPs are self employed and working longer hours because of the increased demand and also providing cover for others who are isolating or ill with covid. Yes face to face contact has been limited for obvious reasons.

If you are unhappy with your GP then you can complain to your practice manager first and if not happy with the response you can then complain to the NHS trust.

The NHS budget will never be big enough ? there are people now, starting to question the direction and whole running of the NHS ? The whole welfare state i think very soon will have to be totally overhauled because When the welfare state was set up after the war the country and society as a whole was totally different than today? A safety net it was intended to be, not a way of life that many have shaped it into ? All having to be paid for by the working, Yes working people of this country?

half the country seems to have taken early retirement and has seemingly no intention of return to full time work

the 4 day week has been talked about for years - I don't think many are doing 3 these post covid days, furlough was BIG mistake !

.................. now where are all those hard working immigrants when you need them

Some progress:
I did notice today the local HSBC is back to normal hrs and the paying-in machine is working again, why was that ever shut down? And I also took my shotgun renewal 'medical form' to the surgery for a sign off, all very helpful. Hermes actually managed a next day parts delivery for me this week, first for a long time due to Covid excuses.

Your councils must have been lagging behind in technology. The company I work for changed to VOIP phones several years ago, so as long as you have a laptop and an internet connection, you can use your phone just the same as you would in the office, anywhere in the world. My landline is forwarded to my mobile as well, in case I am not close to the laptop. So working from home doesn’t have to mean that you cannot be contacted. Unless some of these councils put their workers on Furlough. With today’s technology, there is no need for the traditional office anymore. At least not 5 days a week. Some larger meetings are better face to face, so there will always be a need for meeting space, but this can be in hotels etc.
The big benefit for Farmers is less traffic on the roads, and no rush hour traffic.

I think people are hiding behind excuses, if I'm honest. I can get the mobile phone numbers for almost anyone that matters in a matter of minutes. And if you need a response within a couple of hours to something critical, you don't need the council to help - you call the police and report a breach of planning law, get the cllr to come out themselves or just learn from Swampy and the HS2 crew and go and sit on top of the piledriver yourself.
You are joking aren't you ? ring the police to report a breach of planning law and the only person likely to be facing a charge is you for wasting police time. Also Cllrs set policy, its the officers that carry out the policies.

Police, whatever - but no you won't be. Basically, if you're bothered, do something about it. The cllrs do indeed set the policies, but they work for you and sometimes need reminded of it.

Don't farmers work from home? I bet you do all kinds of none business jobs during 'working hours'.
If I call you and you don't answer does that mean your busy or just a lazy bugger that won't answer their phone?

Was speaking to my vet about invisible GPs the other day as vets have always been availableto see animals in person on farm usually on the day or within 24 hours. during the pandemic.
They said the biggest problem is that GPs are paid on the basis of the number of patients on their books and not by the number they see at appointments. If a vet used the same criteria they would not have any income as they have to consult to earn an income.

Several of my wifes former colleagues had children who were studying medicine and made no secret of the fact that they would only need to work part time as pay was so good. Gone are the days when you saw the same doctor during the week and at nights and weekends.

Just to add I never call them DR now as it is just an honorary title as they have not studied for long enough. Just Google it .Daughter with Phd told a bunch of medics at uni one morning at breakfast. I thought she would get lynched but she knew it was true. Hope she never never sees any of them as a patient!!!

great in grass, i,ll tell you what area i live, and have lived all my life ? near wickford essex ? Yes its got the prosperity that all areas around london the capital have ? but the biggest downside i would say is development and population growth of my local area, it effects so much of everyday life now from roads being busy all the time to crime levels going up ? the population i would say has probably grown 3 fold in fifty years, and if its effecting everday life now, what do you think it will be like if the local councils estimated housing needs of 28,000 more dwellings built by 2034 be like ? Now you down there in cornwall are and have been seeing people moving down to the southwest from the home counties, more and more and have big problems with second home owners and all the problems that that and they bring ?
