Work wear/boots

Hope this is in the right section. Need to buy myself a few bits before the coming season starts. I don't actually own any work boots and my old ones were well past their best years ago and weren't replaced. Also I am looking for a sensible pair of work trousers as I've never found jeans that comfortable for being sat down in all day.

Does anyone know if scruffs work trousers any good?

What about boots? Ambler lace ups, anyone got anything by Engelbert Strauss? I don't like dealer boots much and certainly don't like the look of red backs if I am honest. Only driving a tractor so don't need knee high S5 chainsaw resistant things. Uvex boots? Something lightweight would be good. Normally wear wellies for anything real wet and sloppy.

Also, decent brand of bib and brace overalls? I've always found them more comfortable than regular overalls for the morning grease up etc, throw them behind the seat after that.

Thank you in advance. Hastag- allthegearnoidea. Functional and easy to clean gear preferred- leave the lifestyle influencers to their bailiwick.

I like Strauss.

It’s pricey stuff, but I’ve had almost 2yr out of their boots, prefer the high lacing goretex type ones for my ankles, theyre comfy and light. trousers are quite heavy, great for manual outside work but not too comfy for driving I find. The socks are immense, got some that have been on heavy rotation (at least once a week) for last 12years, getting tired now, but I’m too tight to bin them.

they do bib and brace too, but I’m more a boiler suit person so no comment there

By far the best boots are Redback. My pair have lasted 10 years and only just starting to fail.

Scruffs work trousers are comfy and durable ive had them for years. I have got a pair of jd bib and brace and they are comfy but have not worn them much. Dont find it comfy sat in a tractor all day with overalls on if im honest. Only really wear dealer boots but did have some walking boots once that were comfy and hard wearing, unsure what the make was though. personally find it a pain doing laces but find my v12 dealer boots are comfy and current pair are over a year old.

Which version of the trousers do you have? Are the holster pockets OTT or can you remove them etc. What weight are they?

I have Engelbert Strauss Alrakis as my summer boot. Rate them highly. Only two minor issues: 1, the laces they come with are really long, sorted with a hot knife; 2, the front of the sole seems to stick out further than it should, so I catch it on the pig fences (shin height) more frequently than I do in wellies. Other than that, a really comfy and hard-wearing, and surprisingly light, boot.

Like you, I'm no fan of jeans at work, and have gone to quite some length to determine the ideal pantaloons.

Last summer, I had quite the trouser-choosing marathon with Strauss, with returns and new orders flying about everywhere. I ended up choosing nothing... Everything was either too fancy and complicated, or flimsy.

Over winter I've been wearing long johns and either overalls or waterproof bib and brace (kaiwaka, naturally). Way comfier combo than jeans and an over-layer.

Not fully decided on my summer garb yet. Shorts will be my trusty Carhartts, but trousers are TBD. I have a pair of Cactus trousers I picked up in NZ in 2009, that are still far from worn out. Really, I should just bite the bullet and buy anther pair of them. But the price really does make me wince, even though I am a proper, bona-fide, honest to goodness, gear tart. Oof.

Dont find the pockets a problem got a popper button on mine stops them flapping around. Lighter than jeans id say to. £24 i paid for last pair

Farm Marketplace is cheaper for them, just bought a pair and agree they look like they will last

Dickies work trousers for me. Shorts are pretty good too, apart from the flappy pockets on the front which get removed. The lightweight MVF boots generally suit me fine. Cheap and cheerful compared to the eye watering price of the Redbacks.

the predecessor to these

were £9 a pair when I first bought them, bought 8 pairs over the years. They’ll need to last a while yet as don’t think I’ll be stretching to £15/pair anytime soon.

I must be working too hard - redbacks or any others, I’m lucky to get 12 months out of them
