I recently had my 12 month old working collie bitch spayed and was wondering how long after her operation I should let her get back into working/training? She's going mad with no work!, cheers

I tried to keep mine quiet for a couple of weeks, easier said than done! As above take advice from the vet but also keep an eye on the wound.[/QUOTE

Thanks. It will be 2 weeks on Monday so might try her with some small jobs that need doing over the weekend!

Get a couple of large bones from the butcher? Might help!

I'd a working pointer and I knew something was wrong with him so took him for a walk down the field when he pointed a pair of parridges. An x-ray later the same day revealed he had an obstruction and needed an urgent op. Had to have three inches of his intestine removed as he had eaten a large cattle ear tag that had perforated the gut wall. The vet had intended keeping him in over night (quote: "IF he survives the operation") but he wouldn't settle and pulled all his tubes out, so I collected him. Next day he was doing his best to jump up at the kennel gate to get out with the others, so I just opened up the gate. After some stumbling around to take the edge off his enthusiasm, he got put back in his kennel again. He never looked back and lived to a good age. Working dogs are tough. Just use your commonsense and don't let the dog over do it.
