Workshop bench top thickness

I’ve got this old diesel Tank stand I want to turn into a workbench....what thickness plate would people recommend for it please....cheers

Will you have to cut the plate down. If so I would suggest you start from scratch with box, much better job than angle. Think I’m paying about £22 for 7.5m 50x50x2.5 box so it’s not expensive. 10mm for proper job.
It’s 6 x 4 so would need 2 ft cutting off....I didn’t really want to make another one as this stand is redundant and thought I may as well weld a plate onto the top and make a bench

20mm here, wouldn't want any less, doesn't bend easy and good to clamp to for a flat surface. Most economical way to do it is to buy a full sheet and get it trimmed/squared with a plasma and laid out with plenty of holes for pegs/clamps at 90 degrees. Do it once, do it right.
By the number of hurdles in the background you've spent money before. And everyone on here will help you spend it again?

At least 20 mm but go a bit thicker if you can a Cb good idea to hav at least 3” overhanging your frame do you can use clamps around the edge without interfering with the frame you always make things from a corner the one I use had 35mm top
