Workshop bench.

I'd go box section unless you have a pile of spare angle lying around as the end result tends to be stronger, plus clearing crud out of the shelf corners is a pain. Depending on the depth, put the under shelves on runners so that you can slide them out rather than having to rummage around underneath. Another good idea I have seen is to have a lidded hole in the top with a bin underneath, when cleaning the bench just lift the lid and sweep the crud into the bin. As for sockets - as others have said - put plenty in! If you can get them under the front edge of the bench top they'll be easy to get at.

I'd place the bench and power supplies by the main door, not at the back of the building, much handier for those quick 'park outside' repair jobs. Doors on any storage shelves, but don't leave a gap underneath the bench, because that's where junk will gather and also all those screws, bolts, clips and bits that bounce away at he crucial moment. Big mobile tool chests are usually much better for hand tool storage than low down shelves. Grinding and welding do not mix well with anything oily or electronic, so keep them separated.

This winter I plan to build a new 22ft long bench to replace the exsisting hodge podge I have.

I'm after inspiration really, not sure what to use to build it, angle or box section?
Probably wooden topped most of the way, with a plate at one end for welding on.
Ideally I'd like doors along the front so that underneath could be used for tidy storage, part with shelves part not so I could roll in a toolbox and close doors.
Also what height and width would be the best.

Any ideas/tips/recommendations/pictures??
Any advice welcome.
I have a 17ft long bench made from 3x3 inch wooden posts and 1 and 1/2 inch boards on top that came from a tree that was cut down in front of the house, there is a couple of shelves on it but it just mostly holds junk. I have sheets of ply above it at the back and use that to hang tools on. I have more shelves above that then.

I have a separate steel bench then with a vice on it, it's about 4&1/2 ft by 2&1/2 ft. I have a 10x5ft x16mm thick sheet of steel that I am going to make a welding bench from. I want to make it height adjustable but I don't know how to go about doing it. I don't want to do it like the scissor lift because one side won't be supported.
