I worry about the stuff people are making if they can't trust welding to hold that.

I'll have a go and see what I manage, but there's plenty of sheeted doors with people climbing over them and kids hanging off them that never collapse.

hello I should make a jib crane pillar crane to use on a parallel lathe, would you have suggestions? measures are useful length boom boom 3 meters, height under hook hoist 3 meters modest reach, 500 kg, you could help me thank you 200 ° rotation angle

Would scaffolding beams be up to the job?

Made 2. One out of 80x80x3mm box can reach a good way 40 ft with a pivot in the middle the twist is the problem but it’s ok probably 15 yrs old the second one is one beam with tracking and the wire feeder slides along underneath can’t reach so far 8m I guess. Either all get one made great bit of kit. You will bang your head on it some times.

So long as you don't go trying to hang an engine or something off of one of these you should be ok. much more than a man hanging off it and I'd be asking someone with knowledge of engineering to design it for me.

Some great feats of engineering here never seen such things but sure they make life much easier had my fill of wrestling an Oxford oil filled round objects and through puddles to get to the repair.
some thoughts.

for a shorter reach could the wire feeder be hung on the end of one of those sprung loaded counterbalance legs like seen on garage forecourt power washer brush/hose combos.

Why not make the bigger pivoted ones telescopic instead of hinged, do away with the strain on the main boom when at right angles.

Or just run a bit of coburn tracking down the middle of the shed.

My tuppence worth.

edit. Had a look at Steve’s pic again looks like he’s used a bit of tracking, just make it telescope for extra reach.

IM just trying to find a 3 phase welder with a long inter connection before i start making it.

We were discussing this yesterday and thinking about it and thought it would be ideal to have an extra off cut of thin angle on the welder frame to hang a couple of grinders already plugged in etc etc.
