Afternoon all, I'm hoping someone out there may have a Workshop Manual/ Operator Manual for a Collins Teleshifter. My mate has bought one and would like to get to know more about its workings.

Any information would be greatly received.

thank you all in advance.

Oh goody... someone else with one of these:)

Mine is a Matbro, 1991, and I think its last incarnation - as far as I know, the basic design was made by Collins (light green), then by RWC (orange) then Matbro (yellow)

Originally built on an International skid unit (2wd) then Ford 4 cylinder/torque transmission, maybe all 4wd? I would hope so - mine is a bit pathetic in 2wd.. at least the masted rough-terrain forklifts of those days had the weight of the mast to give you some grip..

I have been told that mine is the same skid unit as the Ford 655c of the day, with electric shuttle and non-turbo (6610) engine.

Great Exportations http://www.greatexportations.com/index.html did me a windscreen a few years ago, any other parts filters etc I have got from NH dealer. The end broke off a steering ram and was a problem, it didn't look like the axle in the Ford parts book, I got a rose-joint off ebay and welded that on.

And that's all I know... Mine has no drive at the moment, I'm hoping it is an electrical problem not hydraulic or mechanical.. anyone got a wiring diagram? I got a manual off ebay for the gearbox itself, but I don't yet have a pressure tester, and the book doesn't say much about the electrics(n)

It sounds like you're maybe in 2 gears at the same time? Although there should be a plunger to stop this happening...
I have a manual for the Ford gearbox, according to that there should be a plunger to prevent that happening.. I guess it's ok to scan a couple of pages and post them here if it's any help, after all the OP did want to find out more about them:)

Note plug no.1 here:

I've also noticed it doesn't have a clutch you have to stop to change gear and still sometimes grinds Is my teleshift meant to have some sort of clutch ??
Thanks

Hang on I'm just scanning this....
There should be a big button on the gear lever you press with your thumb, and that should declutch it?
Also the left one, of the 3 similar pedals? Although there is a switch on the dash which isolates the pedal, maybe the gear-lever button too, @Nearly maybe knows as mine's broken-down at the moment..

I'm assuming you know that you have to pull up the rectangular plate under your feet, and hang upside down like a trapeze artist, to check the transmission oil level?
This is the top of the gearbox:

And this is the selectors, although it doesn't look like you can remove the shifter rails and the interlock plunger, without having the gearbox out of the machine

Hmm yours is a bit older then, and yes you'll have to put the forward/reverse into neutral to change gear (like the Ford 550 digger etc).
Is it even a Ford at that age? The first Collins were International based?

yeah I've checked the transmission oil and topped it up as there was nothing on the stick and it's still doing it so we will just run it till it gets worse then put it in for something a bit newer like a matbro tr
Thanks

Not a complicated machine.

Did you get the parts manual I linked you to?

I can copy my operators manual if you want?[

Hi I have recently bought a 404 teleshift to move logs around in my yard. Is there any chance you could send me a copy of your operators manual. I know very little about this machine and trying to find any info is quite difficult. thanks
