Worst gate !

Not done much contracting for a few years but today came across this !
Got me thinking I don't miss the getting to a farmers field and being first through with rake and trying to open a Contraption of a gap filler .
Either not hung
Tied up with string !
Not wide enough !
Some fence across the top at cab height!
Falling to bits
Overhanging undergrowth branches etc!
I think some farmer think tractors are still the height of a 35x!

Looks fine to me.remember being in Australia and seeing their gates that were called 5 minute gates.5 minutes to make one,5 minutes to open one and 5 minutes to close one

The worst are the type that look ok, but when you go to open them, they fall over, pivoting on a bit of string half way up the hanging end. Then when you go to pick them up, its apparent they were built for @Boysground 's cows and seemingly weigh a ton.
Then when you try to shut them, the uneven ground means they won't stand up and keep falling over again.

Can't see any problem with the OP gate. It's serving its purpose as a psychological barrier to livestock and trespassers, and can be opened to let livestock and farm vehicles through.

It'll probably last longer than some of newer tat I see in the ag merchant's yards, however shiny the new stuff is.

Ah. So somebody stole the bottle it was in, and the strings are gone. They've got to fold flat to go in through the neck.

We have some that are better than that and some that are worse... that one at least has got the luxury of hinges... Whilst ours gates are all at least straight due to not having bulling cows or crap drivers, do we have at least 7 gateways where the gates that lack any posts.... will got around to it one day!

the windfarm put in some galvanised gates, and one got a bit bent, I laid it on the ground, and jumped on it to straighten it! I never knew it was possible to buy gates that were such poor quality!

Corrugated tin sheets are useless- they are only about 3' high.

Decent gates don't last long around here - Once had 12 x 10ft wooden five barred gates disappear overnight - During the miner's strike as the weather turned cold..... The landlord of the reclaimed pit spoil stacks didn't replace them (NCB) but quite frankly they were far too narrow anyway.

Drove up to McVeigh Parkers last year to pick up a half mesh gate. When they brought it out it was pre-bent - they said it was the last one. So we loaded and fitted it.

It still p*sses me off when I go through it that it's bent......

Put it on some flat concrete and drive a tractor over it a few times gradually increasing the thickness of a length of thin timber under one end - there will be a stage where the bend becomes unnoticeable.
