Is it ripe? If it is I would think a drum mower will knock of a lot of grain.Ok so got some spring barleythat is totally flat beyond cutting with a combine, wondering if we mowed it with a drum mower and got it raked would a combine everq take it in with the fingers droppedright down?
What sort of combine? If it’s a popular sort have you got any neighbours that would hire you a pickup header the type that was popular for picking up swathed osrOk so got some spring barleythat is totally flat beyond cutting with a combine, wondering if we mowed it with a drum mower and got it raked would a combine everq take it in with the fingers droppedright down?
Think its a tx or tc nh, the 1 with the square cab. Dont think theres any pickup headers round here tbhWhat sort of combine? If it’s a popular sort have you got any neighbours that would hire you a pickup header the type that was popular for picking up swathed osr
A twin rotor rake going slowly at half pto revs would sit it up nicely without losing too much grain.Normal header with the reel pushed forward a bit would get most of it.Never been a fan of lifters, too much chance of stones going in.Is it ripe? Rake it and you will get straw only.
As previous post, Lifters on and even if have to cut one way or across will get much more of it. Worked through some hellish harvests in the late 70's and 80's. A good driver won't leave much. Whats left put the sheep on for a couple of hours a day and clean it up.
A combine with lifters and the reel set right should be able to rake it up better than a mower.
Sometimes if it’s dead flat remove every other lifter and let the reel do the work. Shove it well forward and get the speed right relative to ground speed. Too many lifters can be a bad thing in totally flat crops as the can actually stop a neighbouring lifter from raising the crop.
Problem is wev quite rolling land and on an older combine with no self leveling head its hard to completely shave the ground without bulldozingIs it ripe? If it is I would think a drum mower will knock of a lot of grain.

Reel maximum forward ahead of the knife and it will pick it up onto the knife. Patience.Problem is wev quite rolling land and on an older combine with no self leveling head its hard to completely shave the ground without bulldozing
Precisely, its gonna have to be mowed to bale it anyway so just wondering if the combine could lift the rowMowing then raking has to be worth a try, just do a trial strip to start with.Got nothing to lose really.
Don’t see why a standard Header won’t pull it in.Pretty sure my NH one would get most of it without lifters, reel pushed forward obviously, sunshine will make all the difference.Be nice to see some photos if it works!Precisely, its gonna have to be mowed to bale it anyway so just wondering if the combine could lift the row
TBh its not a very arable area i live in and all combines seem to be just conventional type afaikChap who cuts mine has a macdon header. I have seen it pick up flat wheat that would have been almost impossible with any machine i’ve driven. @daveydiesel1 would you have someone nearby by with a flexible header ?
