Would anybody consider planting trees on their land?

not as far as ii’m aware

i believe when the trees were removed they were chipped and spread

where they were is now 4 t plus wheat land, the rest of the farm isn’t

soil tests in that soil are a lot more biologically actuve and nutrients much better, most importantly SOM levels are much higher

this is one of several reasons why i’m actively looking at agroforestry options at the moment
Are you looking at spreading timber waste on arable land. I may have to do a bit of small scale timber composting, I know it takes N to break wood down so trying to work out if there will be any benefits?

This has to be a joke , encouraging planting habitat , i had chunks taken off my bsp because i left trees / scrub in corners , (and mature trees on an old railway line ) and ground underneath was in shade (there was full cover of grass ) , and was told to take a chainsaw to it by inspector if i wanted to claim in future ,
so simply no, i wont plant trees ,to facilitate another funding clawback by dfra on tree planting schemes . obviously no joined up thinking from the shiney arsed desk jockeys on where wildlife lives ,
What confidence does that give me for future changes in policy ?
Same here, natural regeneration has become some lovely covers that are no longer eligible for BPS, will harvest them at some point in the future though and until then it will keep the syndicate happy. It has always annoyed me that existing natural woodland is eligible for anything ;(

China is planting billions of trees. They are using the weather changing properties of woodlands to push back and reclaim desert effectively increasing their viable land acreage. You can knock them for a lot of things but they are doing trees right. They are even building green housing estates with plantings intrinsic to every building including roofs and balconies.

Not sure
The whole thing, as it stands at the moment, is a box ticking farce from a government perspective.

I'll also ask the question again, has anyone ever heard of something called "the carbon cycle"?

for rain clouds to form, the water vapour needs something to coalesce around, forests give off clouds of bacteria that float above them, and these bacteria provide the "seed" for the water vapour to form around, before it makes clouds and eventually falls as rain, so as the post above says, changing weather

And what does it do to the capital value of the land.
There was a lot planted under woodland grant scheme years ago that can not now revert back to farmland and has been devalued.

I was speaking to a chap at John Cleggs yesterday and he said that forest land values had actually increased by 50% in the last 12 months, with some forests currently selling for up to 100% over the asking price.

I planted up a wet steep corner with Alder, planted close together. They grew like weeds, and straight up to find the light. I now have an endless supply of fence posts from the Alder, as Alder does not rot in wet ground unlike any stakes I can buy.
They used to make water pipes from hollowed out Alder, but I dont think I will go that far...
