would it cost £650,000 to convert garage into shop

our local garage is closing in a few weeks so that alterations can take place .. about 15 years ago the showroom was converted into shop now the shop is to made bigger by taking part of the workshop also the one side is going to be enlarged by taking part of the car park... yesterday I asked the local builder is he doing the job , he said no but he did tell me it will cost £650,000 and another £150,000 to fit it out , it is a well known fact that the builder is a bullsh!ter but could it be true … I finished going to the garage 30 years ago because of bad service

How long is a piece of string ?

You could probabaly spend millions fitting it out if you wanted it to look like McLaren hq or 10k if you wanted it to look like a old blacksmiths shop !

About 20 years ago our local Shell petrol station was "refurbed" at a cost of £1million, I knew the Shell accountant so know it's true.
It has been done twice since.

Our local garage built a new shop. The chap who wrote the cheque for fitting it out with all the fridges and cooled shelves tills etc told me that was the best part of £200k

thanks for replies.... I am completely out of touch with prices … it costs about £20 to service our pickup and I can get tractor spares from a trade supplier,

Filling station shops have a huge amount of kit in them these days, fridges, freezers, coffee bars, hot food counters etc Next time you fill up, just look at the prices, everything is more expensive than the supermarket or corner convenience store. Went in a local one the other week, strawberries from a local farm £3.49, village farm shop selling exactly the same for £2.25
