Would you do it

Just finished doing some work on my 23c at the weekend, new rings fitted along with big ends.it was used at a ploughing match on Sunday but I'd like to make sure it gets every opportunity to get everything well bedded in before the ploughing season finishes in 2 weeks time.
I have been offered the chance to put my tractor on a dyno for a while at the weekend, part of me thinks it will do it more good than harm, but part of me is scared of bringing it home in a bucket if something goes bang.

What would you do??????

needs about two days hard work or the bores will glaze. At least one of the engine kit suppliers require that engine to be run for no more than ten mins before applying not less than eighty percent full load.If you dont work it, it wont be long before it starts to dump oil through the exaust, that can happen even after working it for a time. If it does another spell of hard work should sort it out

Dyno used sensibly will do it good.

One problem, after a few hours' I'd be tempted to walk away, leaving the little grey one working away, if something goes wrong, you won't be about to jump to the stop knob...

An old boy i knew used to build perkins engines, i think around the time of the p6 and l4 era. He said when they ran them in they would run them for a very short period under a light load to check the engines over and to bed the bearings and rings in then they would run them for 24 hours under hard load and that was the engine run in!
The last one i did was a full rebuild on my field marshall, rebore, reground crank, big and little end e.t.c and we ran that in on an old water brake over several hours bringing it quickly upto full load. Then i spent the following few weekends with it pulling a large cultivator to give it a good test.
That was about 6 or seven years ago and it has been perfect ever since, had it on the dyno last year and it was tested at 42.5 hp :)

Best International tractor I ever had was taken home and put straight on the forager for a fortnight, and due to youthful ignorance had the sh!t beat out of it.
Went better than any other I ever had.

Would a wee bit of ploughing, not be enough?
No, match ploughing is not enough. A friend restored a grey/gold and following the parts suppliers advice, worked it hard on a topper for a few hours. Later events were to prove that it needed more! It did a few matches, then at Leominster last year, it spat out so much oil that one side of the tractor was covered! It went straight back to the topper(the only hard to work implement we had) and spent another three days driving it. It now has a dry exhaust, we hope it stays that way! If not, the paddocks will need a haircut again soon!

It survived

Fired up tractor and left it to warm up for 10 mins then yoked into the dyno. Fired up and did a test that read 21.7hp.
Left it on the dyno for 15-20 mins with a load on then took it off and let her catch her breath for 20-30 mins, then went back on and did a re test which read 22hp. Left it again for 20-25 mins with a bit more load on then came off to let some others on.
One other lad also had a 23c which had done 100hrs since a full rebuild and it was reading 34.5hp

Any ideas where I could be loosing 12hp
