you and me both unless they mean the trailer brakes but who puts them on unless your dropping the trailer
The city centre run off in question involved a unit and double deck trailer. The cab was left unlocked and the engine was running to power the lift when a member of the public climbed into the cab and released the handbrake. If the trailer brakes had been locked on nothing would've moved. It's fairly common practice to pull the red line and leave the handbrake on the unit off so that the idle shutdown doesn't stop the engine

Yes, but the driver should have secured the cab, especially on a hill.
The lad that let the handbrake off, needs a good hard days work

The little sh1t got 18months and a £500 fine. More could've been done to prevent what happened, but that's likely down to the company rather than the driver.

That idle shutdown is the most annoying thing ever I was driving a lorry lately and it stopped every time just as the trailer was hooked on and I got in to drive off
