Which is precisely why we meet to get rid of FPTP and implement PR(STV) to avoid fanatics of either persuasion ever again holding power in this country - The ideal result at the next election as the first stage towards this aim would be a Lib/Lab coalition with the commitment to either bring in PR(STV) or at least hold some sort of public consultation on the matter.Seems a fair assessment. Proportional rep would dish up more fanatics not less. Under PR the greens would have a much bigger voice and UKIP would have been the second party. First past the post may not offer up the most competent political leaders (what system does?) but it does offer up more moderate candidates who tend to fall just either side of centre.
