It looks like the earth slipped away from the rock, don't know the full story, only really guessing.
It would need to be insurance, the hourly rate for all the men and gear would be frightening! I'd imagine it would be more than the value of the machine anyway....

To be realistically though unless the machine had been running on its side and seized then the excavator could of righted it and it would of tracked out then.

It did track itself out, it was being helped up the hill, but it was running and tracking itself.

It looked like they did have it running, it appeared to be pushing itself back up the hill, with the winches helping it. Then it got itself onto the lorry at the end. Machine appeared fairly un damaged.
I get what your saying tho, getting it upright and running would be the most difficult bit, but you'd also want something big and heavy attached to a big winch to make sure nobody got killed going back up the hill, I expect the operator used most of the luck the first time! Throw in every rusk assessment and method statement you can think of, it was never going to be cheap...

I didn’t see the end then where it was loaded. We won’t go into detail of using two excavators chained together to get up a hill, one holds the other while it re positions the boom and bucket.......
Okay dokay,
The real story is...
The digger based harvester landed at the bottom of the hill operatorless, he was building a skyline winch tree landing area when the saturated ground gave way under the weight of the machine and the repeated constant tracking back n forth in the one area, as soon as he felt it slide he jumped clear and watch it disappear down the hill, ground was/is a thin mix of peat and red clay on top of rock, the hill side is probably between 40° and 60° slope.
Recover; Cat digger was winched down the hill by the wrecker, to create a smoother track for the extraction of the harvester, then once the digger was pulled level it as left for a day for oil levels to settle and mechanic to check over before initial start up, then the wrecker pulled the Cat back up then the harvester head was removed from the Daewoo sorry Doosan and winched up, then the Doosan was recovered as in the video. The recovery firm made the film, and I personally wouldn't use the word professional and them in the same sentence either...

Teagle used to recommend that you put some grease on the hook when using their trailers.
As long as you don’t suffer from epilepsy although you may do after watching it
With the weight, pressure and repetitive motion, the grease seems to disperse fast especially when the eye is new.
