Agreed but there are people saying a car going down a road minding it’s own business should stop when a tractor shoves a front mower/weights into traffic out of a field

Every driver should be able to stop when the unexpected happens. Isn't that just common sense?

Would you drive at 30mph past a school as the kids were coming out and say "well, they shouldn't be in my way" when you run them over?

Sadly there are a good few that "think" like that, same as flying past dustcarts and ice cream vans, I can't pass if I haven't at least got an axle view

Have a 4 cross way on a busyish B road get them overtaking a vehicle turning off a main road. Don't even think for a minute someone maybe joining or crossing that road when they go past at 60mph!

I would slow down past the school but as I said there is a point it’s too late to do anything regardless of the speed so anyone merging from the left should give way and have the visibility/cameras etc to make that choice

One of our gateways is particularly crap to get out of as the verge is a foot wide so I have fitted cameras to the front weights so I can see. If I see a car coming on the camera then I should keep shoving the weights out till they stop then? Rather than just dip the clutch and weight for them to pass?

in situations like this when you have to pull out blind into the road perhaps it would be wise to put a sign in the road, you can buy foldable ones that don't take a lot of room, I would suggest someone stand in the road but a/ there isn't anyone about usually or b/ he or she would get run over

We quite regularly have some one walk out and help people out of one of our gateways

For me it’s the responsibility of the person emerging out to do it safely. Whether that be mirrors, cameras, having the window down to hear approaching traffic having. a 3rd person walk to the other side. All of which we try and do.

Most of our issues are caused by the gradual widening of the road over the last 30 yrs

This is getting silly now
Whats your recommended safe speed limit for someone emerging from a blind gateway?
Any advance on zero mph?

Very few gateways are completely blind. The hedge is normally a foot or two back from the road and the toad is normally wider than a car so you see an implement edging out slowly. The edging out should be slow enough that oncoming vehicles should have time to react.

Put the question the other way.
What speed would you drive down a 8ft 6 wide road in an 8ft wide vehicle with 16ft tall hedges tight to each side of the road?

getting a bit circular now .
Put the question the other way.
What speed would you blindly pull onto a 8ft 6 wide road with 16ft tall hedges tight to each side of the road?

Just asking for people to be careful, not telling them off for driving a tractor. we had a blind pull out, so I moved it if that needs doing then do it
Our farmlane had poor visibilty to the left when leaving so we dug away the banking and planted a new hedge further back - before an accident not as a regretful afterevent

These trailers being tipped over all and sundry on open roads in good conditions and with no other vehicles involved is giving the industry a bad bad image. I've said it before and I will say it again people need to ease up and stop being 50k heros or there is going to be legislation shackled onto the industry in no time.
I do agree, more tarmac farming + more speed = more accidents, but there must be thousands of car accidents every day, and that doesn't lead to calls to reduce speed limits, nor ban cars.

That’s easy, I would edge out, as we’ve all said before.

If you want it simpler, drive so the front of the vehicle is at the edge of the road and stop. Move forward an inch and stop. Then another. Vehicles coming in both directions should then be able to see you and anticipate a potential hazard and slow down. Then you creep out inch by inch, anticipating a vehicle trying to get past you.
If you want me to put a speed on it, about 2 metres per minute.

These trailers being tipped over in totally vanilla circumstances isn't funny, it makes you all look like muppets and the authorities will take notice eventually. Even if they don't throw additional regulation on you, the police and DVSA could just sharpen their claws and just go looking for agricultural outfits.
