It sounds to me like there's some finance payments looming and they have nothing to pay them with, so they need a quick bit of cash, even if it costs in the long run, or something else is subsidising their hobby.Nope they were offering £25 per hour for tractor, trailer and driver and the AD plant would supply the diesel.
All I know is that is what they offered a good friend of mine who has a large well run contracting outfit. He told them that it was that low an offer it wasn't even worth starting to negotiate. Yes there will be men who have to find the HP payments somewhere. It sounds to me like there's some finance payments looming and they have nothing to pay them with, so they need a quick bit of cash, even if it costs in the long run, or something else is subsidising their hobby.
No doubt they'll be on a Grassmen video before long telling people how to do it.
On the other hand maybe they negotiated a better rate once they got there and the the AD plants that are using them have no choice but to pay.
Then they would be smart.
Who knows

Ahhh there was no mention of driver until you mentioned the shifts. I can't get my head round how 3 drivers can drive two tractors for 16hrs and have 8hrs off.The deal that was being offered to contractors here in NI to supply Tractors and trailers was £25 an hour plus diesel per tractor and trailer. Three drivers for two tractors 16 hrs on 8 hrs off staggered running 24hrs per day.

That one really is a sackable offence, if he had been at normal expected speed he would have slid it though the gateway into the plant no problemView attachment 992235One in ditch apparently 2days old (tractor)View attachment 992236
They'll be self employed won't theyThe above, is of course, illegal.
Even if you ignore Working Time Rules, night worker rules etc. the employer (or hirer) has a duty of care to the employee, which such shift patterns clearly breach.
Doesn’t matter what the basis of “employment” is. The person contracting their service has a duty of care. They'll be self employed won't they
driving someone else's tractor and been told what hours they have to work, doesn't sound like self employment to me.They'll be self employed won't they
