Car visibly braking long before the impact assume saw what was going to happen and was looking for a claim

Looks like there was a pothole/ collapsed drain cover on the car's side of the road. If it were me, I would brake for that and also use all of my side of the road - the tractor driver certainly wouldn't compensate me for swerving away, missing him and damaging a wheel on my own car. No blame to the car driver for the tractor driver's error.

Car could easily of avoided both the implement and the slightly sunken drain 20yds beyond the point of contact.

Got a retired chap round here who likes to wave his metaphorical willy about like this when he meets machinery on the road. He does the same, drifts onto the white line.

best course of action is just to slow up and stop when see him coming.

Sadly, happens far too often. Road etiquette has been totally lost. No different to when you want to pass a parked vehicle, and those coming toward you stick to the centre line.

Even worse, the person driving towards you needs to pass a line of parked cars, but it’s your right of way. They, by rights, should give way, but they don’t, instead they pull out way, way before they need to so they think you will stop.

Well, curmudgeonly old bumpkin here is actively expecting this scenario, so just keeps blindly chugging along, happy in the knowledge it’s my right of way, and politely suggests the offending driver will need to reverse back.

They don’t like it if I stay calm and thank them until the last split second when my raised hand turns into the middle finger.

That’s a fact you get taught when you do your motorbike licence never look where you don’t want to go as you will drift there

I seem to remember it is called target fixation.

I remember listening to a bike safe talk in which the traffic coppers said that the majority of single vehicle motorbike accidents happened on corners where the rider should have been able to get round but didn't because of this very problem.

Witnessed it riding with a mate following me I rounded a corner with ease he ended up in the ditch asked him what happened he answered he looked at the verge on the bend exit next thing he knew he was sat on his arse in the grass
