Wye Valley

I farmed along the Wye many years ago. Moved down country for 20 years or so. Went back to see the place when I moved back up to the Welsh Borders. The people after me had ripped out all the hedges and small pheasant copse and turned it into one big field.
The track I ran my tractor down was stone back in the day. The field had dropped by at least 18 inches as the topsoil washed away during every flood. Must have been thousands of tons of lovely red earth washed down the river.

I wonder if anyone has ever gone back to see land they used to farm, and come away thinking well done them, they’re making a better job than I ever did....

Just saying.

But yes, it is shocking how some seem to go on, and often the big, supposedly ‘progressive’ farmers too. :(
