Wynnstay joins LEAF to support net zero ambitions

Written by William Kellett from Agriland

As a first step in a five-year strategic plan, Wynnstay have joined LEAF – a global sustainable farming organisation – as a corporate member to demonstrate its long-term commitment to driving more climate smart strategies across the business.

It will be working with LEAF on a number of projects to build on its sustainable farming knowledge generation and exchange capabilities through the company’s specialist advisory teams, support its carbon net zero targets and advancing the company’s commitment to community outreach.

Speaking on the announcement, Wynnstay’s chief executive, Gareth Davies said:

“Environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) and sustainability form a key pillar for the group strategy, with our mission being to help the farmer to feed the UK in a more sustainable way.

“We see a significant role for Wynnstay in supporting farmers with products and services to help drive sustainability and greater efficiencies.

Wynnstay are working towards becoming a carbon net zero business and have already make significant advances including the incorporation of biofuel in our HGV fleet, driving efficiencies in our mills and depots to reduce emissions, exploring on-site renewable energy generation, using certified sustainable soya and utilising recycled plastic packaging for all own brand animal feed.”

Lewis Davies, group environmental and sustainability manager said:

“Joining LEAF is an important part of the investments we are making in widening the group’s knowledge base, supporting our advisory teams with the most up to the minute sustainable farming expertise and developing innovative products and services.

LEAF is very much a grass-roots organisation, working with farmers to drive more climate smart solutions.

“It will also help ensure that we are playing our part to benefit both the local communities in which we live and work and society more widely.”
