YAGRO

I see all the big boys have pulled out now of supplying chemicals.

My experience of it from the one quote I got from the platform was that the chemicals were just about competitive with the usual suppliers but not quite cheap enough to sway me. I'm open minded though, we'll see...

this was always going to be the issue I think, I love the idea of Yagro (similar to the TFF quote me concept) but can anyone really break the price fixing cartels and lack of transparency that exist in UK ag input supply ?

Last weeks New Season Nitrogen/Urea Prices are just the tip of the Iceberg with higher powers having total control over our inputs.
They have us where the want us & its always been like this & is it likely to change, is it heck as like.
Back onto original Post, ive asked my agronomist about costings for advice only then i source agchems, there is nowt in it.
Zero Hassle just getting the agchems thru same company that i use for the advice & everything arrives within 24hrs.
Faultless service by all accounts.
I use two diff Reps within the same organization & both have overlapping knowledge which is very usefull.

We are supposed to be farmers and they herd us like sheep!

I wish I could post stuff without getting sued sometimes !

scratching heed with that one clive :scratchhead:

I've learnt a lot since starting TFF about how UK ag input supply REALLY works and what muppets UK farmers are taken for - I would love to share but would end up being sued or under a motorway bridge I fear !

Fair enuff.
Iam a small player in this game & dont have the time to chase several companies up for quotes on agchems so i try my best to trust the main business who we have used under diff names over the years & remain loyal too.
For the right reasons.
wither thats right or wrong dont quote me on that but my Dad did it this way & now i do & have great respect for the same people we like to do our business with & know them very well.
If i had a 5000ac owned farm then it might be a diff conversation were having, Sadly thats not the case.

We are our own worst enemys! When an opportunity like yagro or tff quote me comes along we need to all get on board. These platforms give a transparent (as much as can be) purchasing option where we can compare quotes directly. The reason the major players have pulled out is because its too easy for them to make a higher margin from farmers who cant be arsed to shop around or compare prices., I really like Yagro. I have no reason not to. I saw them at croptec they signed me up and from then on I had the opportunity to use it. It costs me nothing and I struggle to see why people aernt all over it.

trouble is such a big % of the market is controlled by so few that they black ball such things and then they don't really work as well as they should

I agree with your sentiment entirely though, and we are all our worst enemy in this, just don't know quite what the solution is yet, I am trying to find it though !

So true and its starting to concern me how much control and more worryingly data some of these companies have on us. I would imagine there are situations happening where the seed, agronomy, fertiliser and pesticides all come from one company....who then buys the grain through a pool! But it comes back to the fact that we need platforms like yagro and tff quote me (independent) before it goes too far.

If enough buyers continued to support Yagro then the big players would return due to not wanting to lose a lot of business. Who will blink first?

Maybe Yagro should follow Rotam's lead and try and deal direct with the manufacturers. If only that could work, it would serve the distributors right for pulling out.

Courier delivery is cheap enough nowadays. Everything else I buy that isn't a full load seems to turn up that way.

I never quite got my head around the ADR implications of Rotam's direct delivery system. I guess it is easier with small quantities of SU granules.

Well I tried to have a quote from Yagro and only one firm came back to me. I then compared it with Agrii, Agrovista and Procam quotes for a pile of products and there was very little in it. The motivation wasn't big enough to deal through Yagro this time because at the very least if I deal with Agrii (I do usually) I can ring up and ask the odd question, delivery is very efficient, get 8 weeks to pay and can send the odd thing back or exchange items.

So I'm still interested in Yagro but the smaller independent suppliers need to be cheaper again for it to work for me. I have used Rotam/Killgerm this year and made a decent saving quite quickly so that worked well.

I like Yagro, and get quotes but I've found when quoting for diesel the quotes from Yagro were 2p/l dearer than when we phoned same suppliers.
Would they be keeping best prices for direct customers?
Because they have to pay Yagro a fee if they place the business their way, I think a couple of % or so, so the price quoted on there will have to cover supplier margin and Yagro margin.

Going direct in some cases should result in just one margin being paid.

Slightly off topic but its the same with buying groups- there are a whole load of extra people that have to be paid.
